Mess!

The builders have started today!

I’ve been off work and round at the house with them as I was also meant to
be getting my new fridge/freezer delivered (TOUCH T3H SHINEY). Turns out
Hotpoint had it down to be delivered tomorrow though, even though the
lady confirmed that they’d been asked to deliver it today. Thanks, good job
I had a lot to be getting on with!

Anyway as soon as my lovely builder Jeff came (he’s great, he
knows everything like your Grandad, only more expensive) I stood quivering
a bit and pointing at the giant mess I’d made of the fireplace and the fact
that there was a lot of loose bricks and no lintle in sight.

Being a builder and hence being gung ho about such things Jeff just smacked
the loose bricks with a hammer until the lintle appeared, yay!:

yay, lintle!

Jeff did say at one point that there might not be a lintle but not to worry as
it would ‘probably hold on the bond’. I have no idea what that means but I
wasn’t keen on the ‘probably’ part of it!

Anyway, whilst I precided to rip out my nasty kitchen (had to stop when I got
to the gas cooker, I know my limits…) builder number two, John, arrived.
John is also great and introduced himself once he’s stopped laughing at the
dust mask I was wearing and asking if I thought it made me look like a
Storm Trooper.

The pair of them then proceeded to take all the plaster off my walls with a hand
held pneumatic chisel thing (they called it the ‘kangol’, I don’t know if that’s
who makes it or if they just felt the need to give it a nick name):

brick!

Again I
made various naive comments like ‘those walls are very old, are you sure it’s
OK to use an electric chisel on them?’ but they did an excellent job of
humouring me.

Back to work tomorrow, Jeff and John shold be in all week so I’ve given them
a key and left them to their own devices. Will have to go round tomorrow
night and drop the cat5 runs off… :)
