New kitchen
Things are progessing nicely with the house! The builders have got the woodworm treatment done, replaced the rotten floorboards (which in Jeff’s words ‘disintegrated’ when he lifted them, eek!) and are cracking on with the plastering.
All the lounge has been skimmed and the fireplace bricked up, it’ll take a few weeks for the plaster to dry now. John has also patched up a lot of the holes and mess that I made ripping out the fitted cupboards for free, yay John!
The builders are due to finish on Monday. I need to ring the roofer on Monday as well, but he’s pencilled to sort the guttering out next Wednesday and Thursday.
Once the building work and guttering is done, it’s just down to decorating and also the small matter of the kitchen!
I have ripped out most of the kitchen and it’s currently in a bit of a state:
I’ve looked at the kitchens in B and Q, MFI and IKEA and have decided that for what I can afford (i.e. not a very expensive kitchen!) IKEA seem to have the best quality units.
They also have a handy planner tool (althout it’s Windows only, cuss) where you can input the dimensions of your kitchen, door and window locations etc. and then drag in the units as you please. Using said tool I have created the following possible kitchen:
The big hole by the cooker is for the washer to go in. I think the washer will be a lot better there than stuck under the sink as it was previously (see top photo).
As you can see from the original photo there isn’t really spare for a sink bowl and washer in front of the window which is why the sink is positioned so that your hip bangs into the units when you wash up!
