The IT Crowd

A new programme started on Channel 4 on Friday called The IT Crowd, which is a sit com set in a British IT department.

Having been back at work today and talked to to everyone else who watched it it seems I wasn’t the only one who thought it was great! Obviously it’s made to be more over the top than something like The Office, but working in an IT deparment myself I can really appreciate the jokes! Someone on the writing team has to have been there to get it so spot on I think.

Our department at work consists of twelve men and zero women, so this bit was particularly familiar! :

"It’s about time you got back, it’s been all go!"
"Had a job?"
"Girl on 5th…"
"Did you and her ‘hit it off’?"
"Define ‘hit it off’"
"Did she continue talking to you, once you’d fixed her computer?"
"Err…no."

I have to say though I object to them portraying your average IT office as being piled up with crap waiting to be repaired, stuff that should really be in the bin, messy cables and cartoons all over the wall:

I mean my desk is in a zen like state of complete tidyness, not a bit of old junk, a UNIX manual or a cartoon in sight:

…um, OK, maybe not!
