YEP in Bother?

A bloke knocked on the door earlier.

“‘Ello, am from t’Yorkshire Evening Post.”

“Um, ‘ello.”

“D’yer read t’Yorkshire Evening Post?”

“No.”

“Well does anyone in t’house read t’Yorkshire Evening Post?”

“No. There’s ony me ‘ere an I don’t read it.”

“Can I ask why!?”

“I’m from t’Internet generation to be honest, I get all me news on-line.”

“Aye. Am gerrin that a lot! That’s what’s doing us in! Do you want a six week trial for £1.45?”

“Err, no ta.”

They must be really struggling if they’re having to go door to door for for subs, to be honest though I’m more inclined to blame the Metro than the Internet!

Makes you think though, has the daily newspaper had its day? I’m not against printed media, I take three magazines a month on subscription (Practical Photography, .NET and Edge) but that’s not the same as a newspaper. They’re things to read at leasure and keep, they don’t go out of date in 24 hours.

I can see why some people would like to take a paper to read on a weekend  such as the Sunday Times but the YEP is a daily paper with local news in, it’s really not offering too much more than bbc.co.uk/leeds.

Sad to think that it could disappear altogether but if I was a betting man I’d say within 5-10 years it could happen.
