Litton mistake

When I started researching my family tree I did what most people do and headed straight up the paternal line.

It took me a good few years but I managed to get back to my great, great, great Grandfather William Atkinson, born about 1817. I found him on the cencus and, unbeknown to me at the time, made a fatal misreading of his place of birth multiple times on the cencus.

Restorations

I’m currently doing a lot of these restoration jobs as I’m compiling a great deal of old family photos into a book for my nan and grandad from Christmas.

It’s going to be great but they’re very time consuming! This one is my great great great grandma Nancy Jackson in Bradford c.1900.

There’s something you don’t see every day…

I was in Spofforth yesterday looking for a grave (didn’t find it), the whole back of the graveyard is occupied by about a dozen sheep!

I’ve been off work today (first of three long weekends to use up my holiday before term ends) and I had told Mum I’d take her out for the day. We were going to go to Malham Tarn for a walk but it’s been pissing it down. All day. Again.So, I asked her where she wanted to go instead and after some deliberating over a cup of tea she went “Pudsey cemetary!”. Yup, time to get back on the family history trail!

Yafforth Atkinsons

Yesterday me and Jane and Elvis went to Yafforth, a tiny village near Northallerton in North Yorkshire.

As usual Elvis was quiet all day (juststood on the dashboard wagglin’) and Jane only offered her usual stuntedconversation (At the roundabout. Take. The. 3rd Exit….Turn around. Whenpossible.).
