Renovation - Cellar

This isn’t really a cellar as such, it’s what they used to call a cold store I think. When there was no extension on the house what is now the dining room would have been the kitchen and this area would have been accessed off that room. Now that the house is extended you can get into it via a little sliding door between the kitchen and dining room:

I haven’t done a great deal to it as you can see, there’s not a lot you can do with it really apart from tidy it up. I cleaned it all out and then gave it a good blathering of white paint (this helped to light it up more than anything).

I then layed down a waterproof ground sheet to stop moisture rising up. With it being below ground level and also having an old slab stone floor it was smelling a bit damp!

Finally I laminated it with all the off-cuts and marked boards I had from the other floors and finally fitted in some storage (Ivar range from IKEA):

I’ve achieved what I wanted to with it, it’s clean and dry and useful for storing tools and stuff in. I think too many people have holes like this that are manky and full of spiders so they don’t really get used!
