This is the second bedroom which had a similar amount of work done to the master bedroom. As you can see from the photo this room belonged to one of the little girls who lived here before and was done out in a Beatrix Potter theme. Purple walls, purple carpet, blue woodwork…I still can’t believe I didn’t take all this in properly when I looked round!
This room was also a state and not fit for a child anyway in my opinion, the anaglypta above the lincruster was all peeling off and the exterior wall was damp as the one in the master bedroom was (due to un-attended to guttering failure).
The first thing I did was rip out the carpet, take down the pelmet and rip out the fitted cupboard. Again I had to put a plasterboard patch in the ceiling where the cupboard was as the ceiling ran up to it and there was a hole.
The builders then treated the exterior wall in the same way as the one in the master bedroom, taking it back to brick, installing a visqueen lining and then plasterboard and skim.
At this point I spent literally months stripping the room with mum. It was so soul destroying we kept doing bits here and there and it just dragged on and on and on! There was layers of old paint and paper and it was all stuck like buggery.
Once I had it something like and had made good the chimney breast and alcove mum’s fella kindly lined the room for me. Being a professional decorator he did a spot on job too, not like the crappy work I’ve done! In my defence though I am a systems administrator, not a tradesman!
I painted the room ‘Soft Apricot’ and replaced the light fitting, switch and sockets. Finally I laid down ‘Washed Maple’ laminate finished with maple scotia.
