This is the third bedroom which I’ve turned into an office (it’s not big enough to be a bedroom anyway really, you couldn’t fit a single adult bed in without ripping out the fitted cupboard). This room has had the least done to it out of all the rooms. This is the newest part of the house (added about a hundred years after the house was first built!) and as such the walls are in good condition etc. which meant there was no real prep to do.
Incidentally, according to the building plans for this part of the extension my office walls are made out of Asbestolux. Yum, won’t be drilling those then…
I removed the carpet and then painted the walls magnolia. I replaced the light and all sockets and light switches as well as fitting telephone and ethernet sockets.
The cupboard in the corner was basically a wardrobe. I removed the railings inside and fitted in shelving. I also replaced the old handles with some I salvaged from the cupboards I ripped out of the dining room.
Finally I layed fibreboard underlay and then ‘Washed Maple’ laminate floor finished with maple scotia:
Fully 6 months later on when I’d finished more rooms in the house I decided I’d used way too much magnolia and spent a day re-painting this room with Dulux Once Roasted Red:
